OUR STORY

Built on Patience and Precision

A small workshop in Bangsar, KL — focused on doing careful, well-documented watch repair work.

How kelvanen Began

kelvanen started as a personal hobby that outgrew the dining table. What began with a single ETA 2824 disassembly — done mostly out of curiosity — grew into a steady stream of friends, then friends of friends, all bringing watches that needed attention. The move to a proper workshop on Jalan Maarof came when it became clear that this wasn't just a weekend activity anymore.

The name "kelvanen" doesn't carry a grand meaning. It was simply available, easy to say, and felt right for a workshop that values substance over spectacle. We don't chase trends in the watch world. Instead, we focus on understanding each caliber we work with, documenting our process, and giving watches back to their owners in a state that reflects the work we put in.

Our team is small by design. Every piece that comes through our door is handled by the same watchmaker from start to finish. This way, there's a clear line of responsibility and nothing falls between the cracks during a handoff. We know what each watch looked like when it arrived, and we know what was done before it leaves.

Over the years, we've built a working relationship with parts suppliers in Switzerland and Japan. This helps us source genuine components when they're needed, or find well-matched equivalents when originals are discontinued. We don't rush the parts-sourcing process — we'd rather wait for the right component than install something that doesn't belong.

OUR PEOPLE

The Team Behind the Bench

AH

Adam Halim

Head Watchmaker

Trained under a retired Swatch Group technician in Penang. Specialises in ETA and Sellita movements. Prefers working in silence, which the rest of us have learned to respect.

SL

Sarah Lim

Workshop Coordinator

Manages client communications, parts tracking, and service scheduling. Previously worked in luxury retail, so she understands how people feel about their watches.

RK

Raj Kumar

Technician — Quartz & Bezels

Handles quartz caliber replacements and bezel work. Has a sharp eye for colour matching and font alignment — the kind of details that make a visible difference on a wrist.

OUR STANDARDS

How We Work

Detailed Inspection

Every watch is examined under magnification before work begins. We photograph the condition and note any pre-existing marks or issues for your records.

Swiss-Grade Solutions

We use Moebius oils and cleaning solutions formulated specifically for horological work. These are the same products specified by movement manufacturers.

Six-Position Timing

All mechanical movements are timed on a Witschi machine in six standard positions. The results are recorded and included in your service documentation.

Genuine Components

We source parts from established suppliers in Switzerland and Japan. When originals are unavailable, we use manufacturer-approved equivalents — never aftermarket substitutes of unknown origin.

Secure Storage

All watches in our care are stored in individual trays within a secured area. Our workshop is monitored and access is restricted to our working team only.

Full Documentation

A service record card accompanies every completed job. It details the work performed, parts replaced, lubricants used, and timing measurements — all in writing.

What Guides Our Work

Watch repair, at its core, is about patience. A movement has hundreds of tiny components that need to work together within tolerances measured in microns. Rushing that process doesn't save time — it creates problems that surface weeks or months later. At kelvanen, we pace our work around the watch, not the calendar.

Transparency is another principle we hold closely. Before any repair begins, we explain what we've found, what needs to be done, and what it will cost. If a repair doesn't make practical sense — say, when the cost would exceed the watch's value — we'll say so honestly. Our role is to advise, not to sell unnecessary services.

We also believe in documentation. The watch industry has a long history of verbal promises and handshake agreements, but a written record protects both sides. Every service card we issue is a factual account of the work completed. It's there for your reference, and it may also support the watch's provenance if you ever choose to sell or pass it on.

Kuala Lumpur's watch community has grown noticeably in recent years. More collectors are seeking local service options that don't require shipping a watch overseas. kelvanen exists to fill that space — quietly, carefully, and with the kind of attention that a well-made timepiece deserves.
